One of the biggest changes over recent years to employment law, especially within the family friendly arena is the introduction of Shared Parental Leave, which came into force on 1st December 2014. It is expected to allow parents increased flexibility in deciding how to care for a new child during it’s first year. In essence, the new regulations allow parents to choose how to allocate the 50 weeks of Shared Parental Leave between both parents, subject to certain eligibility criteria, notification rules and procedural restrictions. However this is expected to have a huge impact on businesses and how they work with their employees who have become new parents.
