This is the one we have all been waiting for! The highly anticipated Employment Rights Act 2025 has gone through many changes before being passed as legislation. It contains updates and new legislation covering a wide range of areas – the implementation dates are phased with some of the regulations already being in force. Thankfully, some of the original ideas have fallen by the wayside, but there are still a lot of changes on the horizon.
The most significant areas (that will become effective from April 2026) include changes to the way Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is awarded, amendments to Parental Leave and Paternity Leave, a new Bereaved Partners’ Paternity Leave, as well as changes to the Protective Award for collective redundancies and variations regarding whistleblowing legislation. Employers should make sure that managers are trained and equipped to deal with any queries, and ensure that all policies, procedures and handbooks are up to date.
